The Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and the students of Blessed Marie Rivier Catholic School had the joy of celebrating together the feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The president of the Student Council had previously initiated a similar get together for the students joining the Sisters so as to socialize and learn from each other. Many preparations were done by the students who were in charge of the Eucharistic celebration and the banquet.

A few parents were present at the celebration of the Eucharist. The entrance hymn “Ave Maria” was sung by a student. The Eucharist, source and summit of Christian life, was celebrated by Father Maurice Fiolleau, Vicar General of the diocese. In his homily, Father put the emphasis on Mary’s response to the angel, “I am the handmaid of the Lord”. He then stressed the fact that Mary abandoned herself to God and put her total confidence in Him.

After communion, in order to enhance the feast, fourteen students performed a liturgical dance in the sanctuary. At the end of mass Father gave a testimony of his priestly vocation.

There was a lively spirit of friendship and love during the delicious banquet which was prepared by the kitchen staff. This meal was an opportunity for the sisters and students to share their various experiences together. A few dignitaries were present: Bishop Albert Thevenot M.Afr, Father Maurice Fiolleau, Father Jude of Swift Current, and some members from the Catholic School Board. Fellowship concluded the spirit-filled day.

May Marie Rivier help us in our mission towards young people so we can be joyful witnesses in spreading her spirit.
