This year marks the 75th anniversary of the consecration of Canada to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the historical Marian Congress in Ottawa in 1947. During this month of May, called the month of Mary, a replica statue of ‘Our Lady of the Cape’ is touring the Western provinces, and stopped in the Prince Albert diocese from May 18-20. In the morning, Claude and Michelle Jalbert who were in charge, first brought Mary to the convent of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary where they had a celebration Mass. Then Mary was taken to the Sacred Heart cathedral where a Marian Hour celebration was held. People brought roses symbol of gratitude to honor Mary as they had some quiet prayers and the recitation of the rosary. Then the statue of Mary travelled through the diocese visiting other towns.
Saint Marie Rivier, our foundress, had a great devotion to Mary, during her life time she confided all her problems and needs to her and Mary always came through for her. She would say, ‘I have obtained everything through the rosary’.
The official title of Mary at Cap de la Madeleine, is Our Lady of the Holy Rosary. This shrine is the second largest in Canada and was officially founded in 1888. It is through the rosary that many miracles have occurred there, including the miraculous formation of an ice bridge over the St. Laurence River that permitted the transportation of supplies to build the shrine basilica. But the biggest, is the miracle of faith that has sprang up through the confraternity of the holy rosary.
May you all trust in Mary and have a filial confidence towards her and ask through her intercession the graces that we all need for our lives.
On Tuesday, may Mary visit you on her feast day, ‘The Visitation’, and bring you graces of her Son Jesus.
O tender and merciful Mother
intercede for those who are dear to us.
Heal the sick,
protect our families,
guard our country
and help all those who are in war.
Our Lady of the Cape pray for us.
