The month of September offers several occasions for us to celebrate Mary our Mother.

On September 8th we celebrate her Nativity.  Her parents were Saint Joachim and Saint Anne.  The Blessed Virgin Mary is a gift from God as Mother of the Redeemer of the world, Jesus Christ.

On Friday, September 12th, we honor the Holy Name of Mary, a woman of faith and hope.

On September 15, Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows is our model during times of pain and suffering.  She lived in sorrow and grief the passion along with her son, Jesus, in silent reflection and pain, with the hope of the Resurrection to come.

Let us celebrate with joy her feast days. Mary helps us to grow as human beings and teaches us how to be faithful in our daily tasks.

Prayer is an excellent guide in our prayers to Mary. Let us turn to her in prayer, in hope, for our suffering world.

As we repeat the Hail Mary and focus on the mysteries, she can guide us closer to Jesus.  The Holy Spirit can give us wisdom to understand how the scenes relate to our lives.

Let us unite and pray together for the problems, the struggles and the sufferings of our times.  Mary followed Jesus and heard the stories of those opposed to Jesus’ message.  We may entrust to her our tribulations, our trials, our joys and our consolations.

‘Behold she will bear a son, who will save his people from their sins.’ Matt 1:23

In particular on September 15, as we recite the rosary we can focus on the Sorrowful mysteries:

1 The Agony of Jesus in the Garden

  1. The Scouring at the Pillar
  2. The Crowning of Thorns
  3. The Carrying of the Cross
  4. The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus.

HAIL HOLY QUEEN, mother of mercy;
our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve.
To thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this vale of tears.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us.
And after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen
